Soil health: why it matters
Whether you are using artificial fertilisers, organic manure or a combination of both to optimise soil health, we can enhance your knowledge of the key influencers on soil health.
The current support for farmers through the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) requires a soil management report, we can help compile this for you.
By focusing on soil biology, we offer you the ability to understand and effectively manage crucial aspects of soil health such as structure, organic matter, compaction reduction, nutrient levels, drought resistance, water logging prevention, soil texture and classification, worm populations, pH balance, soil health index, and temperature. We also help you identify and manage deficiencies.
By delving into all of this, we can provide a long- and short-term plan tailored to the farm’s specific soil type.
Understanding the benefits of soil health data
There are multiple benefits to investing in professional analysis of your soil, including:
- Underpins a fertiliser regime that will most benefit a farm’s soil
- Provides greater understanding of the key factors that influence soil health
- Leads to improved soil structure, reduced compaction, and increased organic matter content
- Allows for effective management of major and macro nutrients, promoting optimal crop growth
- Increases drought resistance and prevents water logging
- Improves understanding of soil texture, classification, and its impact on crop health
- Helps you understand the importance of worm populations and their role in enhancing soil fertility, nutrient availability and soil productivity
- oil structure pits are used to assess soil quality and help farmers to make informed management decisions
- Detail pH levels, which can be optimised for proper nutrient availability
- Monitors and improves the soil health index, ensuring long-term sustainability
- Recognises and manages any nutrient deficiencies for healthier crops
- Promotes efficient soil management and continuous improvement.
What does our soil health process look like?
Our comprehensive soil health process begins with an on-farm visit, where we gain a deep understanding of how your farm operates, its expectations, and future plans.
To assess the soil conditions, we dig a series of soil pits across the fields, allowing us to capture critical data on the soil’s structure, the plough plan, and compaction odours. Additionally, we conduct worm pit assessments to determine the worm population count, which is a key indicator of soil health. Each sample pit is precisely GPS plotted for future comparisons and measurements.
Based on the gathered information, we compile a comprehensive report that brings together all the data and provides valuable recommendations.
Combine soil health with our range of farm services
This process and report can be used in conjunction with our range of services, including GPS precision testing, fertiliser recommendations, nutrient management planning, and grass measuring.
Using these services in tandem ensures a holistic approach to soil and nutrient management that’s tailored to your farm’s specific needs and goals.
